Losing your voice

Dilbert is a really funny comic, because it's like a documentary...I'm an engineer and so is Dilbert. Sadly enough, I can relate to almost every single comic he writes.

The creator of Dilbert lost his voice to a rare disease a while back. It's strange because he is able to sing and perform public speaking, but not talk normally to other people in smaller settings. It's a disease for which there is no known cure. Miraculously, he got his voice back today. It was the happiest day of his life, even after all the success he's had with Dilbert.

Makes you appreciate good health.

Alternatively, there's an interesting MMO that's getting biggger and bigger. It's Second Life, and it has recently reached 1 million members. This one is different because you use real money to finance your activities online. It's interesting observing how a virtual economy operates. Every day, there is about $500,000 USD transacted online!

A lot of blogs talk about it and recently someone held a concert there , so I recently joined just to see what all the fuss was about. It's ok, it's kinda like a chat room with avatars. You can fly around and teleport as well. And of course there are places for you to spend your money. Usually the things in game to buy are virtual clothing, avatars, furniture, vehicles, homes and land. I've made ~$4 so far just going around doing stuff. Anyway, I only bring it up because this would be good for people who are disabled or in poor health. But for me, I don't know if it'll be worth spending much time there....RL (real life or 1st life to second lifers) is so much more fun!

Hrmm, how much do you need to withdraw? Hahaha, I wonder how you smuggle stuff in-game to make money...

Smuggle? What do you mean?

It's also not really a game...it's more like...a second life. Or more like a virtual world. It's hard to describe, but it's definitely not a game...

Yeah, there's a virtual economy you can get money from doing stuff and making stuff and then spend it on other non-material possesions

I think there are some people (probably very very few) make stuff or make money off their land (rent), get virtual money (Lindens) and then convert it to real money. Probably pretty rare though. A while back someone bought an island for $100,000 USD and said he would make it back soon enough. I wonder how that turned out...

I've been cheap so far and haven't really bought anything, although I am looking for some nice hair at the moment, but almost everyone sells female hair and not male hair.

Anyway, check out this article about selling clothing in a virtual world.

Hehe, nvm.... but another possibility is money laundering in-game.... Hrmmmm how to make quick cash... (and yes, I know it's not really a game, but it's a sufficient description).
